McDonald's Hamburger Expedition‏

McDonald's is holding a "Hamburger Expedition" event for parent-child pairs over the summer holidays. Winners of the drawing will spend time at the McDonald's Chicken Studio in Shinjuku, Tokyo to learn about hamburger nutrition and the secrets of hamburger flavor. They will also learn how and experience making hamburgers and using the McDonald's preparation tools in what I assume is a mock store kitchen.

Local McDonalds stores in Japan have held similar events for many years. Great fun for the kids.

Meiji Ikiiki Sesamin Drink‏

Meiji has introduced a dairy based sesamin and omega 3 containing drink sold exclusively through their home delivery network. It is called Ikiiki Sesamin, or roughly "full of life sesamin". It advertises that every serving contains the equivalent sesamin (a polyphenol) as is contained in 800 sesame seeds as well as added DHA/EPA from tuna.

Suntory Vitamin Water Kaifuku Promotion‏

Suntory is promoting its Vitamin Water and Energy Gear drinks with special seals on product which, when entering online, give customers points and special prizes within the popular online social game Kaifuku Item (回復アイテム). There are four phases of the promotion and it appears each phase involves different characters in the game.

Kewpie Half Character Goods Giveaway‏

Kewpie celebrates 20 years of Kewpie Half with character goods giveaway. Entry is by affixing bar codes to a postcard and mailing it in. Kewpie Half is marketed as a new type of mayonnaise - roughly half the calories and half the oil using in typical mayonnaises.

Kewpie claims the secret to the products' good taste and reduced calories are two technologies: micro encapsulation, which increases the surface area of the oil (allowing for use of only half the vegetable oil as compared with typical mayonnaises), and egg taste technology which is not explained but retains the good taste of the eggs used. The egg taste technology is a recent improvement.
